Six years later, within the Senior Official Meetings (SOMs), the Common Research Area (CRA) was adopted and incorporated on the Brussels Declaration, signed by the Head of States from the two regions on the eight bi-regional meeting. The CRA focuses on three pillars:
Increased mobility of researchers between the two regions
Promotion of access to research infrastructures of global interest to improve sharing of data and scientific excellence
Focus cooperation on jointly defined grand challenges to create critical mass
The declaration also points the strengthening of “cooperation by the implementation of the network on research and innovation (ALCUE NET) through strategic activities in articulation with other thematically related projects supporting policy dialogues, as well as the selection of jointly funded projects and the launching of a new call by the EU-funded networking project (ERA-NET-LAC) that brings together research funding agencies from both regions”.
